This past week, the Stern School of Business announced that it will change its school motto to “work will set you free.” The phrase, seemingly taken from the sign above the concentration camp Auschwitz, has already been emblazoned all over Gould Plaza.
Stern did not have a motto until now. When asked, a spokesman for the school said, “We liked the way it rolled off the tongue.” Continuing, he said that one administrator, a native of Germany, sounded particularly good when he said it. “Yeah, I don’t know. Just seemed right!”
After giving comment, the administrator began shooting the floorboard below him with a submachine gun.
